Urine examination and urine colture
URINE TEST PREPARATION
Collection should be carried out using the urine container provided free of charge to the patient by the staff at the collection point or purchased from the pharmacy (in which case ask for a vacuum urine container).
The patient should write their name and surname on the container and not on the cap.
SAMPLE COLLECTION
Only URINE EXAMINATION: collect the sample on the morning of the day of the sample collection (urine must stay in the bladder for at least 2 hours).
Also URINOCULATION (alone or with the urine test): the sample must be collected in the morning of the day of the sample collection, collecting the urine at least 3 hours after the last urination.
The collection methods are as follows:
- open the container;
- discard the first micturition of urine;
- collect the second portion directly into the container;
- close the container by screwing and tightening the cap firmly to avoid overflow of urine during transport;
- return the container to the laboratory within two to three hours of collection.
COLLECTION FOR SMALL CHILDREN
For both urine examination and urine culture, if the vacuum container cannot be used, collect in sterile self-adhesive plastic bags.
The collection methods are as follows:
- if possible, collect in sterile self-adhesive plastic bags, which can be purchased from pharmacies;
- after urination, carefully close the bag using the tab and place upright in the wide-mouth container, do not transfer the urine;
- return the urine sample container to the laboratory within two to three hours of collection.
SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS
Microalbuminuria (albumin/creatinine ratio) and NTX
If requested by the doctor, this test can be performed on the 24-hour urine collection (as long as it is in an acid-free can).
Chlamydia urinaria DNA, trichomonas urinary antigen, legionella urinary antigen
Do not discard first micturition of urine.
Other extemporaneous urine determinations
Collect urine based on medical indications.
